I'm one of the (apparently few) people that enjoys travelling alone, and not really doing the tourist kind of thing.  So, I had the opportunity to travel to New York City a few months ago as my ultra-talented cousin was graduating from the American Boychoir School in Princeton, NJ.  So, I spent the first day in NYC traveling with my two aunts, one of their children and my grandmother.  And what do three white women from Alabama do on a trip like this?  Knock off purses in Chinatown, of course. 

It was surreal following my grandmother up four flights of steps (past the "massage parlor" and "sweatshop" floors) in a warehouse on Canal Street so that she could BREAK THE LAW and buy fake Louis Vuitton.  And I did get a tight "Prada" briefcase. 

But, after that, they left the city and I fended for myself.  It was the perfect vacation, because it was just me.  NYC is the greatest city for an introvert.  I always thought I would hate it, because, well, I don't like groups of people.  But, talk about being alone in the crowd.  If you want no one to pay attention to you, it's perfect.  In the few days I spent, I managed to only leave the island once (I missed a stop and rode out to Roosevelt Island) and I didn't even lay eyes on the Statue of Liberty.  I was much more content to just people-watch and spend time in the perfect weather reading a book in Bryant Park, or seeing a movie in Times Square.
